When you begin a diet probably the most often heard pieces of advice is to keep a food journal in which you write down every thing you eat during the day. Keeping a food record helps you identify the foods you are eating as well as the foods you are not eating. One example is that, after tracking your nutrition for a few days you might realize that you are consuming far too many sugars and unhealthy fats and not nearly enough organic nutrients. Having it all written down can help you determine the elements of your diet that need to change as well as how much exercise you need to get to make sure that you burn enough calories to keep your waistline in check.
You need to be very precise when you write down the things that you are eating. It is just not adequate to list salad in your food journal. You need to list every one of the materials within that salad as well as the type of dressing on it. You also need to note down the amount of of the foods you are eating. Cereal is not as beneficial an entry as one cup Honey Nut Cheerios. Dont forget that the more of some thing you take in, the more calories you are going to ingest so you need to list out the measurements of what you eat so that you will know just how many calories you take in and will need to burn.
Record your spirits whenever you eat. This can help you figure out when you use food to help soothe emotional issues. It also helps you see clearly which foods you are inclined to choose if you are in certain moods. Many individuals will reach for junk foods when we are upset, angry or depressed and will be more likely to choose healthier options when we are happy or content. Not only will this let you notice when you reach for precise foods based on your mood, it will help you find ways to keep healthier (but similar) selections on hand for those same moods and help you figure out whether or not someone professional can help you deal with the issues that are sending you towards certain foods in the first place.
